Mr. Boualong “Chanh” Phongsavanh, 70, passed away peacefully Friday, June 6, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 22, 1944, in Muang Xay, Laos.

Boualong was the patriarch who strived for a better life for his family. In 1975, he led the family to the US, to begin a new life in Lamoni, IA. His dedication to his family set great examples that anything is possible with strong values and hard work. He passed on his passion for hunting, fishing and helping others to his children and grandchildren.

Boualong was very loving and proud of his wife and five children. Survived by his wife, Khoun; his children: daughter Kay Lovan, her husband Seuang, their son Russell Lovan, daughter Kara Lovan; his son, Viengsay Phongsavanh and wife Blyth; his son Phayvan Phongsavanh father to Skylar Phongsavanh and Justin Phongsavanh; his son, Ket Keo Phongsavanh father to Assua Phongsavanh, Ashlynn Phongsavanh, Ally Phongsavanh; his daughter Daovone Phongsavanh mother to Brooklyn French and Bradley French; as well as his many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other friends.

The service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery.
