Service Details

Douglas John Schuessler was born April 6, 1966, in Des Moines, the son of Jim and Janet Schuessler. He passed away unexpectedly from an aortic aneurysm Sunday, June 1, 2014 at his home.

Doug is survived by his wife, Maria Schuessler; children – Madison (Patrick Truby), Jimmie, Sheridan and Landon Schuessler; granddaughter, Keeley; parents, Jim and Janet Schuessler; parents-in-law, George and Nannette Coon; siblings - Vernon Schuessler, Kimberly (Tim) Manning, Paula Eichinger and Darcy (Glenn) Gill; numerous nieces and nephews; other loving relatives and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Margaret Elwell and Howard and Gladys Schuessler.

Doug loved his family above all else. He enjoyed family vacations at the lake, attending his children’s sporting and school activities, and coming to the party shed for family gatherings. Doug was so proud of his children and loved sharing in their successes.

Doug had a passion for horses and spent many years raising and caring for draft horses with his dad Jim. He loved being outdoors, from hunting and fishing to riding his motorcycle. Doug enjoyed music. When he was younger he played the drums and most recently taught himself to play the guitar. He, his brother, and friends enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical. Doug’s biggest gift to us all was his generosity and kindness. He would do anything that anyone asked of him without complaining and with a smile on his face. He was loved and adored deeply, and he gave us that same love in return. He will be desperately missed but will live on in our everyday lives and in the legacy of his children.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Douglas Schuessler Memorial Fund, PO Box 7, Alleman, IA 50007.
