June 01, 2014
Michael James McBride, 45, was born June 14, 1968, to James and Marlene McBride in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He passed away at his home in Ankeny, Iowa on June 1, 2014.
Michael grew up in the Des Moines area and graduated from Urbandale High School. He worked for the Des Moines Police Department for 23 years, graduating Academy Class 53. During that time, he served the community in the uniform patrol unit, narcotics unit, airport unit, and most recently as Detective, Special Assignment Unit. In his youth, Michael was honored as the second-youngest ever to receive the Eagle Scout award, and he was always supportive of his father's active participation in Shriners.
Michael loved live music, travel, food and especially his family and many friends. Michael was a creative, passionate man who lived a robust life without fear. He was dedicated to those whom he loved, and demonstrated that love at every opportunity.
Most of all, Michael loved his wife Laura profoundly, and the two were inseparable from the time of their first meeting fourteen years ago.
Michael is survived by his wife, Laura; sisters, Peg (Terry) Meewes, Sherry (Romaine) Curtis, and Patti Payne, in addition to five nieces and one nephew; parents-in-law, John and Julie Schreurs; brother-in-law, Rob Schreurs; as well as a large circle of friends he considered his family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4 to 8 p.m., also at the funeral home.

I will miss his sarcasm and his smile. Everytime I saw him he had a smile on his face and something witty to say. Laura, words can't express the pain I feel for you. Only time can heal the pain but if you need anything please don't hesitate to ask.

Laura and family, words can't describe the loss that everybody who knew Mike is feeling at this moment. I have so many memories of Mike and Laura and know that they were a vibrant couple full of energy. Mike had a sense of humor that was unequaled to anything that I had ever been around. I will miss the friendship that we had not only as brothers in blue but in the personal friendship away from work. I always tried to attend brother Mike's events so that I could see Mike and Laura, sometimes I could not attend and now I feel as though I lost some opportunities to make more memories with Mike. My thoughts and prayers to you Laura and your family, please don't hesitate to call if you ever need anything, find the strength to carry on through this time of sorrow and know that you are surrounded by people who care.

Laura, I'm very sorry to hear of the loss of Mike and my thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time in your life. May you find peace and love with your family and friends at this time. I have many wonderful memories of the two of you and you both impacted a part of my life. God does things in mysterious ways and only he knows the reasons why. I am very sorry..
Philippians 1:21- 23 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.

Laura & Family,
Mike & I worked uniform patrol on the Eastside. I will remember his humor & his smile. A gentle & compassionate man. However, if you need help and knew Mike was on the way, it gave you strength & courage. He was an incredible COP.
May the everlasting joy of your loving relationship strengthen you in your time of sorrow. May the Grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ place His healing hands on you & your family.
