Zachary John Colbert, 22, was born July 30, 1991 in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Hoover High School and attended Iowa State University for two years, studying engineering and architecture. He then transferred to DMACC to follow his passion for graphic design. Zack was an amazing artist and an avid basketball fan. He enjoyed watching the Boston Celtics, especially Paul Pierce.
Zack passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, also at the funeral home.
Zack is lovingly remembered by his mother, Sharon Colbert; aunt, Johnita Colbert; cousin, Kaycee Rosacker and her daughter, Devyn; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members and friends. He joins his grandparents, John, Mary, and Lometa Colbert; and uncle, Robert Cooley who precede him in death.

Sharon...my heart is just breaking for you. I had no idea what you and Zack were going thru. Just know that I am thinking of you today and praying for God to give you all the strength and comfort that you will need not just for today but for all the days to come.

Truly "facing death" is by far one of my biggest fears & weaknesses. The impact of being face to face with someone who has passed has bothered with every since I was little. With that being said I will not be in attendance for the celebration of life for someone I consider a great classmate and an even greater friend. By in my absence I know you'll be surround by family, friends, and the many people whose heart you've touched. I know you've been these things for me. And even as I find the words to express how much you mean to me and how much I'm going to miss you, tears fill my eyes. There are many moments I can sit here and remember, recall, and express but none would truly show how great of a person you were. None would compared to the direction you were headed, the plans you've made, the changes you were going to bring to the world. In all, none would bring you back. But I'm glad to have share those moments with you, to have witnessed your greatness in one form or another. Others will feel the same, will find different words, have different stories, but at the end of the day I can honestly said your impact on my life has been a great part in who I am today. I truly thank you for that. Truly... No amount of anything can honestly come close to the gratitude I have for your actions and your words on my life. I just hope every time you look down upon me, there's a smile on your face and a warmness in your heart. I'm truly going to miss you, Zack Colbert

My heart goes out to the Colbert family. Zack was amazing, had a great sense of humor, and always kept a smile on his face. For the little short time that I got to know him, he was phenominal!!! My heart goes out to his mom and family words cant explain how much u guys are hurting my heart and soul are with u guys im deeply heart broken too the short time I have know zack im proud to call him my friend he is the most humble down to earth loving caring guy that would do anything for anybody I love u buddy I miss you rip zack
