Jerry L. Babcock, 70, of Des Moines, passed away at Taylor House on May 27, 2014. Jerry and his twin Gary Lee were born in Des Moines on October 1, 1943, to Royce Dean and Nellie Elizabeth (Young) Babcock. Jerry was employed by Lowes of Altoona, IA for 17 years.
He enjoyed going to car shows and collecting vintage car models. He loved his dogs and made opening day at the Iowa State Fair a priority. Jerry loved to spend time with his family and he enjoyed cooking for them.
Jerry is survived by his three daughters, Brenda (Paul) Stout, Jennifer (Mike) Sheeler, and Angela (Tom) Chiodo; 8 grandchildren, Michael, Marcus, Jacob, Andrew, Emily, Thomas, Grace, and Lucy; step-grandson, Michael; great-grandchild, Lillyian; step great-grandchild, Rowan; two brothers, Richard (Geri) and Lorence (Lupe) Babcock; sisters, Betty Fuller and Donna (Larry) Anderson; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Gary, and older brother, Marion Babcock of Loveland, CO.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines; with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff at Lutheran Hospital and Taylor House Hospice for the compassion and wonderful care Jerry received.

I will truly miss this 'Ole Buddy' of mine. I worked with Jerry for 6 years at Lowes where I first met him in 1997. He remained one of my close friends after I left Lowes.When I came back for any reason to Des Moines from Wyoming, a visit with Jerry was always top on my list. I will cherish those memories and never forget his listening ear to all my small problems in life.

Jerry was my dad's first cousin, but he was only one year older than me. Whenever his family visited our farm, we played in the barn and with the animals--country stuff.
During college summers, I worked in Des Moines. Jerry and his brothers, Richard and Lowrence, gave me advice and helped maintain my cars--city stuff.
I am thankful to have visited with Jerry last June and am hopeful that my brother, Greg, will make it to Jerry's service.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Jerry's family for peace and comfort. I used to work with him and he would talk about his family, he loved them very much. I remember when his daughter was pregnant with Lucy, he was very excited. May all of you find comfort in memories, and know he isn't suffering. Hugs to all.

Uncle Jerry was always a joker. Rick & I used to work for him when he had his janitorial business and it was never a dull moment. He kept us in stitches the whole time, plus we learned the value of hard work at a young age. Jerry will be greatly missed by all who knew him! Rick & I were just back there to see our mother & we ran into Jerry @ a restaurant, we had such a good time. I'm so glad we got to see him after all these years. You have our deepest sympathies for your loss. Your families will be in our thoughts & prayers.

Jerry has been part of my life since I was 11 years old. His sister, Betty, married my dad. I loved his sense of humor and the obvious love for his family. Every time I talked with him he talked about his girls and his many grandchildren. He was so very proud of all of you and loved you so much. Just eight weeks ago he offered to come and help me take care of Betty but wasn't feeling the greatest so didn't want to come down and give her any sickness. What a kind and thoughtful person. Always quick witted and a quick thinker. Betty and I are sad and want to send our sympathy to his girls and their families.

Dad we well miss you so much! You were a great Dad and Grandpa to my kids. You have always been there for me. I will never forget how much you loved us. I want to say Thank you for Being my Dad!!! Michael Todd is thankful for letting him stay with you. Marcus will keep your love for cars alive. Don't worry I will to try to get Jacob to buy a Chevy. Andrew will take care of your great grandchild Lillyian.. I will get Thomas out of the house more. Mike will try not to be so sneaky and will take care of Bud and Jack. We will miss you!!!!

Jerry was a great friend who was so funny and such a great guy. He would do anything for you if he could. He was one of the good ones and I am going to miss him so much. I had so many great times with him and will cherish those memories forever. Love you and miss you!!

What a great person to work with. When I walked in the door at Lowes and saw Jerry standing there looking thru those glasses I
knew he was ready to give me his words of wisdom. The day wouldn't be complete till I heard it. loved working with him...he made work fun...without him it will be like a missing piece to your favorite puzzle.
