Ardith Lorraine (Brechler) Heles, age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2014, at Wesley Acres in Des Moines. Ardith was born on May 22, 1929, to Chris and Evelyn Brechler in Hardy, Iowa. She attended Renwick High School and business college in Minnesota.

Ardith was an active member of All Saints Parish where she was a past president of the Rosary Society. An avid reader, she taught a “Great Books” course for young people. She especially loved poetry and would often quote her favorite verses. She enjoyed playing tennis and was an excellent equestrian. In later years, she was a tour guide at the Governor’s mansion, Terrace Hill. She also volunteered as an advocate for Alzheimer’s patients. Ardith will be remembered as loving wife, mother, and grandmother; loyal and fun-loving friend; for her spirit, wit, generosity, and style; and for making the best chocolate chip cookies and fudge ever!

Ardith is survived by her children Robert M. (Bobbi) Heles of Des Moines, Diane Heles Bank of New York, and Lorraine Heles Baum of Colorado; brother Ronald (Jan) Brechler of Arizona; grandchildren Robert C. Heles, Dana Heles, Max Bank, Chloe Bank, and Caitlin Baum; and seven (almost eight) great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert J. Heles, and daughter Kathleen Heles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Acres, Animal Rescue League, Alzheimer’s Association, or All Saints Parish.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014, at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Avenue, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.
