George McAninch, 61, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at Regency Care Center.
George was born April 26, 1953 in Des Moines. He worked for McAninch Construction until his retirement. George enjoyed nature, hunting and fishing. He was a very social person, loved to talk and was generous to a fault. George never knew a stranger and everyone was a friend. He was great with kids and known to all as “uncle Merle”. George had a little knowledge about a lot of things and loved to share it.
George is survived by his daughters, Dawn (Chris) Ray and Amy (Elek) Richmond; grandsons, Deven Taylor, Elek and Heath Richmond; mother, Beverly Peck; brothers, Gary (Lisa), Mike (Becky) and Tony (Robin) McAninch; sisters, Sharon McAninch and Cindy Myers; and a host of extended family and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by wife, Susanne McGuire McAninch; father, George McAninch; and his brother, Dale McAninch.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be directed to the Animal Rescue League.

Having been a friend of the family his mother Beverly Peck and Sister Sharon for many years. As long as George is remember, he will never be gone. We are all on this Train called life, we never know when it will make its last stop for any of us.

I have some good memories of George when I worked with him on job sites that I will never for get he was a real good man he was a joy to be around I am so sorry for your loss George will be missed by everyone that new him God Bless !

I will truly miss my best friend George. He was like a brother to me. We had a lot of great times growing up together, hunting and fishing and running around together. Love you and will miss you very much. My prayers go out to the family and friends.

So many memories created by a life well lived and enjoyed. Hate to think about how many decades it's been, but will always remember the hot summer days spent walking bean rows with George and his brothers. Sunflowers so thick you couldn't see the person a couple rows away, but didn't keep us from hiding George's water jug! We may have grown up, but you'll always be remembered as Georgie Bill! Our thoughts and prayers for the family.
