Norma V. McElvain

Norma V. McElvain, 88, was born December 30, 1925, in Seymour, Iowa, to Frank and Lona Chambers. She passed away May 13, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Norma graduated from Seymour High School in 1943 and was united in marriage to the love of her life, Stan McElvain, in 1946. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and was a founding member of Westover Baptist Church. She was a great help and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Norma enjoyed collecting quilts, playing games at the Northside Senior Citizens Center and visiting with her friends. Above all else, she cherished her family and their time spent together.

Norma is survived by her husband of 68 years, Stan; son, Kermit (Valerie) McElvain; her daughter, Judy (Darrell) Bray; 4 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; as well as her brother-in-law, Bill McElvain. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be held at South Lawn Cemetery in Seymour, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Northside Senior Citizens Center in loving memory of Norma.
