Barry Ellis

Barry Wayne Ellis was born August 23, 1946 in Des Moines, the son of Ira Lee Ellis and Gladys (Homsher) Ellis. He was a resident of Des Moines his entire life and graduated from East High School. The family wishes to thank Barry’s special friends, Larry and Sandy Fleck and their son, Jarod who made Barry a part of their family. They spent many Sunday afternoons covering the back roads and frequenting small towns and restaurants around the Des Moines area. They would also like to especially acknowledge his very special niece, Lorelli Matz and her husband, Don, who were Barry’s advocates in so many ways. Barry loved cars and trucks and being on the open road. He owned and operated Fast Trax Express for a number of years.

Barry passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 67. He is survived by his sister, Leah J. Ellis Darr (Dudley) of Knoxville, TN; brother, Dwight Ellis of Des Moines; nieces, Lorelli Matz (Don), Robin Gurwell, Kelly Wernli (Matt), and Kimberly Darr Tobias (Chris); and nephews, Matthew Ellis (Kristy), Tim Ellis (Gay), Alan Ellis (Karen), and Bradford Ellis Darr (Molly).

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ira “Gene” Ellis.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 19 at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.
