Wathena Newman

Wathena V. Newman, 88, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Regency Care Center.

Wathena was born October 28, 1925 in Ramona, South Dakota to Henry and Hazel Moore. She was an Avon Representative for many years. Wathena enjoyed bowling, golfing, camping and attending the Iowa State Fair. She was a member of Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church.

Wathena is survived by her husband of 72 years, Lyle; sons, Eddie (Karen) Newman and Brent (Monica) Newman; sister, Louise Corll; grandchildren, Danielle, Natalie and Gregory Newman; great-grandchildren, Jack, Graham and Eva; and a host of extended family and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Hallie Moore.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church, 6205 SW 9th Street. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Kellerton, Iowa at Maple Row Cemetery.
