Theodore “Ted” Rice, 96, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014 at Unity Point Hospice Taylor House.

Ted was born November 18, 1917 in Bussey, Iowa to William and Gertrude Rice. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Ted worked construction and was a member of the local carpenter’s union. He enjoyed playing poker and won many tournaments over the years. Ted also enjoyed traveling, fishing and wood working.

Ted is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Marcum; grandson, Erik (Wendy) Marcum; granddaughter, Shelley (Nathan) Miller; brother, Charles (Dixie) Rice; great-grandson, Carson; great-granddaughter on the way; many nieces, nephews; and other loving family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn in 2007; son-in-law, Ernie; brothers, Dave and William; and his sisters, Sarah and Viola.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 with the funeral service at 12 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Ted will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Evelyn at Avon Cemetery.
