Maureen Channell

Wanda Maureen Channell, 92, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2014, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born October 5, 1921, to Harry and Gertrude Wagner in North English, Iowa.

Maureen was a proud eastsider, graduating from East High School in 1939. On September 2, 1945, she married the love of her life, Orville Channell Jr. They had three children: Linda, Robert and Katherine.

Maureen was employed by Iowa Power and Light retiring in 1985. She enjoyed her family, friends, and “Mr. Cashman” slots at Prairie Meadows.

Maureen is survived by her children, Linda Pike, Bob Channell (Barbara), and Katherine Justice (Steve); grandchildren, Kelly Wallander (Claude), Rob Channell (Tammy), Michelle Channell, and Adam Pike; great-grandchildren, Alix, Michael, McKenna, Anniston, Amanda, and Harrison, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Channell Jr.; parents, sisters, Madeline Dray and Bernadine Wagner; and her brother, Gerald Wagner.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3300 Easton Blvd, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. The family will greet friends Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines.

Donations in her memory can be made to the Animal Rescue League of Des Moines or East High School Alumni Association.
