Michael J. Fletcher

Michael Joseph Fletcher, 64, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Taylor House Hospice.

Michael was born September 18, 1949 in Columbus, Nebraska to Sylvester and Matilda Fletcher. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, and watching the birds. He was a Cardinals fan and liked Big Red football. He worked for UnityPoint, formerly Iowa Health Systems, as the Grounds Manager and took great pride in his work. He gave back to the community by giving the patients and their families beautiful flowers and landscaping to look at while they recuperated.

Michael is survived by his wife of 40 years, Amy; children, Nick Lutes, Angie (Jeff) LaVelle, Kate (Ryan) Reynolds, and Joseph Fletcher; grandchildren, Zachery, Noah, Mikayla, Jeffrey, Hayden, Gemma, Avrey, Eleanor, and Arianna; siblings, Bernard Fletcher, John (Anne) Fletcher, and Ann (Vance) Kitchel; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Mary Porter and Jean Nelson, and brother, Charles Fletcher.

Please join the family for an open house to celebrate Michael’s life to be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2014 at 4700 SE 34th Street, Des Moines.
