Annette Becton

Annette Phyllis Becton, age 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Annette was born April 17, 1938 in Waukegan, Illinois, the daughter of Arnett and Eleanor Williams.

Annette was a graduate of Lake Forest High School and also attended Northern Illinois University. She was quite an athlete and loved softball and basketball. In 1962, she moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Annette spent most of her career working for the United States Department of Agriculture until her retirement in 1996. Most recently, she was a diligent bus attendant for the Des Moines Public Schools.

In 1972, Annette married Roderick E. Becton, Sr. In addition to raising her daughter she was also involved with the Des Moines Roadrunner Bowling Guild. She was also an active member with the Des Moines Women’s Club. Her interests included sewing, knitting, making dolls, and doing some crafts.

Annette is survived by her sister, Rosemary Hickman of Evanston, IL; brother, John Montgomery of Waukegan, IL; daughter and grandson, Holly and Yarima Robertson of Des Moines, IA; step-children, Tina (Becton) Dudley, Regina Mosley, Roderick Becton, Jr., and Keith Becton; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will begin at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street followed by a memorial service at 5:00 p.m.
