Harold C. Newman

Harold Charles Newman, age 96, passed away April 26, 2014 at the VA Central Hospital.

Harold was born January 15, 1918 to Olga and August Newman in Manly, Iowa. On May 28th, 1950 he married Nora Mae Patschke. They remained together for 62 ½ years until her death in 2012.

He served in the United States Army during WWII. After his honorable discharge Harold worked in the Veteran’s administration until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of Iowa Unit WBCCI and Highland Park Lutheran Church. He also was an accomplished trumpeter in several musical organizations throughout the Des Moines area.

Harold is survived by his daughters, Jodi (Rick) Purviance and Diane (Ken) Vanderpool; grandchildren, Stacia (Bryan) Smith, Chris (Ashley) Vanderpool and Melissa (Matt) Beals; as well as six great-grandchildren, Raychel, Clayton, Ryk, Thayer, Matthias and Matijs.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Resthaven Cemetery, 801 19th Street in West Des Moines.
