Lois A. Wing passed away Friday, April 25, 2014 at Karen Acres Health Care Center at the age of 94.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. The funeral will follow the same day at 1:00 p.m. with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Lois was born October 20, 1919 in Indianola, Iowa to Ora and Bertha Sams. She was a quiet woman with a very strong faith. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, and quilting for her family. Lois loved spending time with her grandchildren and with friends on the lake. She was very hospitable and was known for her fabulous pies.
Lois is survived by her son, Ken (Betty) Wing of Johnston; daughter, Shirley Wing of Woodside, CA; grandchildren: Lisa Kruger of Des Moines, Gregg Wing of Grimes, Rebecca (Eric) Heikes of Johnston, Bruce Jones of Des Moines, Brian (Becky) Jones of Des Moines, and Staci Jones of Des Moines; and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, and her husband of 57 years, Otis Wing.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Gigi's Playhouse, Des Moines, Down Syndrome Achievement Center.

I remember Mr & Mrs Wing from Grandview as a couple who complimented each other in their love of family and church while being fun and compassionate in their lives.

Dear Shirley, Kenny and family,
My sincere condolences to you all as you grieve the loss of your Mom and Grandma.
I have so many good memories of Lois, and will forever be grateful to her for making my mother so welcome at Heather Manor (they were next door neighbors ) and for looking out for Mom as her memory began to fail.
Of course, I also remember Lois's wonderful hospitality and how she treated me like a "real" Sams!!
Regretfully I am out of town and will not be at the funeral tomorrow. So I want you to know how much I will miss seeing you and sharing in the celebration of the life of a dear lady.
