David George Berlovich, 84, peacefully departed this life Sunday, August 19, 2007 at Morrison (Illinois) Community Hospital due to a brief infection.
His family will receive friends during a visitation at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, on Wednesday, August 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Deacon Patrick Kirkman will conduct a Rosary service at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, August 23 at the Basilica of St. Johns, 1915 University Avenue.
David was born October 1, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Dewey and Edna (Armstrong) Berlovich. He was a 1940 graduate of North High School. On January 9, 1945, David married Edith L. Moore; they were married nearly 15 years.

He was most proud of his six-year military service during WWII, beginning Stateside with the Iowa Army National Guard when he was fifteen. Later, Dave saw combat in Northern Africa and Italy with the 34th Infantry Division of the United States Army and received three Campaign Stars.
He held a variety of positions but was at his best as a bar owner. David owned the T & T Buffet before retiring in 1978.
Dave loved his family, his friends, cousin Jackie Marie, telling stories, football,
and horseracing. He owned three thoroughbred race horses. He had great respect for military veterans. Dave lived a long and interesting life. He was opinionated and passionate, and you always knew where you stood with him. His children were the loves of his life.
David was preceded in death by his parents, brother William J. Berlovich, and grandson Danny Oppenheim, Jr. Surviving children include a son, David Lance Berlovich (Linda) of Norwalk, Iowa, and two daughters, Stephanie Vavra of Morrison, Illinois, and Rebecca Oppenheim of Overland Park, Kansas. He leaves six beloved grandchildren: Holly (John) Abramovich, Hillary (Marshall) Blevins, Nathan Vavra, Shelley (Bill) Perry, Sandy (Tom) Armstrong, and Stephen Spain. His dozen great-grandchildren include Jordan, Caitlin, and Max Abramovich; Daniel, Will, and Bobby Oppenheim; Lindsey and Loren Perry; Benjamin and Coltan Armstrong; Daniel and Andrew Spain. He will see an awaited 13th great-granddaughter Blevins from Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gold Star Museum, Camp Dodge.
Dad, above all else, you were a loving man, and we will miss you. “We loved you best.”
