Joseph Barnes, 69, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014. He was born January 26, 1945 in Des Moines to Joseph and Dorothy Barnes. Joe was a carpenter and enjoyed fishing, camping, and cooking out. Family was important to him and he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. Joe liked working with his hands. He built birdhouses and was currently constructing a train set. He also enjoyed racing of any kind, particularly stock car racing.
Joe is survived by his mother, Dorothy; children, Joseph Barnes, Jr. (Christina), Jeffery Barnes (Andrea) and Dora Jean Bartel (Ian); grandchildren, Ryan, Brittany, Jesse, Austin, Tyler, Vance, and Dalton; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Zoey, Brooklyn, and Elianna; sisters, Linda and Sharon; brother, Wayne; and significant other, Judy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph; wife, Loretta; brother, Walter; and sister, Katherine.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Graveside service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 19 at Berwick Cemetery in Berwick, Iowa.

My prayers and thoughts are with you children,grandchildren and great grandchildren,all relatives and friends. I know that you will miss Joe tremendously but the "Love" you shared with him will remain in your hearts! Joe was always respectful to me and I always looked forward to seeing him when I came to visit my family Joe Jr,Chris and kids...

He was a great neighbor and I will miss our conversations. Just sitting on the patio shooting the breeze, hollering Hi Uncle Joe when I see him outside (Inside joke) even if he couldn't see me. All around great guy. My Condolences to Judy his children and grandchildren.

Joe will be missed by so many. Prays r with his children and grandkids/ great grandkids in there time of pain. I believe is he is looking down smiling as he rest in the loving arms of his wife in heaven
