Phillip Jones

Phillip DuWayne Jones was born February 2, 1934 in Winden, Wisconsin, the son of Robert and Fern (Lane) Jones. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951 – 1954. Phillip was a jack-of-all-trades. His job titles included carpenter, truck driver and security guard. Phillip was a member of the VFW and AmVets Legion. He passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014 at VA Central Iowa Healthcare, where he was a resident for the past seven months. He was 80 years old.
Phillip is survived by his step-children, Glenda (Mike) Gross, George (Sarah) Parsons, and Gloria Parsons (Tom Trottier); sisters, Lorrie Sisk and Roberta Smithson; sisters-in-law, Norma Jean Hill and Carolyn Armstrong; brothers-in-law, Philip (Judy) Coe and Dennis (Laraine) Coe; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and children, Peggy Jones, Guy (Stacy) Jones, and Jay Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma (Coe) Jones; sister, Geraldine Lee; brothers, Bill and Mary Jones and Gene and Phyllis Jones; brothers-in-law, Jim Sisk, Charlie Smithson, Robert Armstrong, and Ned Hill; nephews, Dennis Lee, Scott Jones, Lyle Jones, Stephen Armstrong, and Gene Hill; niece, Geraldine Lommen; and grandchildren, Nathan and Kim Gross.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19, also at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to AmVets Legion Post 2, 2818 5th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa.

Phil was a wonderful gentleman who will be deeply missed by his AMVETS family. He helped build this organization into what it is today, and I am deeply thankful for his service to our Country and to AMVETS Post 2. Rest in Peace my friend.
