Betty Jean (Collins) Storey Reedquist

Betty Reedquist, 93, was born at home on January 2, 1921, in Dallas Center, Iowa, the daughter of Christie and Lydia Collins. She passed April 6, 2014, at Kavanagh on 56th in Des Moines.

Betty was an elaborate storyteller and no one could tell stories quite like she could. She was a very active and curious woman her whole life. She loved exercising and rode her exercise bike for an hour each day, just shy of her 93rd birthday. Betty was constantly researching and learning new things, receiving her first library card at the age of 91, and learning how to ballroom dance and fish in her 50’s. She always said she was lucky to have been loved by two men in her lifetime, having been married more than 30 years to each husband.

Betty is survived by her son, Greg (Debbie) Storey of LaJaunta, CO; grandchildren, Angela (Dan) McClelland of Des Moines, and Andrew (Carol) Huber of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren, Scott Lauritsen, Maxwell McClelland, Will and Anna Huber; stepchildren, Dick (Alice) Reedquist of Kalispell, MT, and Mary Lou Christanson of Adel; as well as 9 step grandchildren, 13 step great-grandchildren, and 1 step great great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman “Ralph” Storey (1974); second husband, Howard “Hap” Reedquist (2007); daughter, Christine Huber Paskins (2008); granddaughter, Stacy Jean Storey (1984); great-grandson, Ryan Thomas McClelland (2013); 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and 2 infant siblings.

A private service is planned for a later date.
