Carol Winterberg
April 02, 2014
Carol (McKay) Winterberg was born July 16, 1943 in Galesburg, Illinois to Rev. Adrian L. and Carolyn Lucille McKay. She married Gary Winterberg on June 6, 1970. Carol touched many lives throughout her 37 year teaching career with Des Moines Public Schools. She was a proud recipient of the Golden Apple Award and would have given the shirt off her back for her students. In fact, many times she used her own money to buy her students coats. Carol retired from teaching in 2001. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa teachers sorority and Highland Park Christian Church.
Carol passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the age of 70. She is survived by her husband, Gary; sons, Garett and Nicholas; grandchildren, Colson and Zionah; many nephews and nieces; and her beloved dogs, Kayte and Missy. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jerry McKay; sisters, Marilyn Crispin and Marion (Mern) Kraemer; and her nephew, Jeff McKay.
According to Carol’s wishes, there will be no services held at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Highland Park Christian Church Building Fund.
Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

I just heard about Carol today while at the pool. I asked Jennifer if she knew anything and she hadn't heard herself. Gary, we are so sorry for your loss. I hope we will soon see you again at the pool. Hugs from all the volleyball gang!

To our Aunt Carol, you have made many impressions on my life sense I was a little boy causing trouble. . You taught me how to control myself, with a very simple sentence. There's a time and place for everything. .. I have lived by that my hole life, teaching my son's to live with that also. .. you made Angie feel like one of the family, were she never even questioned it.. she loved you from the first Aunt Carol hug that is like no other. .. you will be missed, but never ever forgotten ! Your impression on life will live on forever. Because of your true life teaching, you're family and students have and will continue to live and teach what you've taught us all. We love you Carol McKay Winterberg !!! P.S. give Jerry a big hug and slap him for me. Love you!
