Pauline Lucia

Pauline A. Lucia, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2014 surrounded by her family.
She was born in Des Moines to Sicilian immigrants, Tony and Alice (Rossi) Palmer on June 21, 1919. She attended Lincoln High School. She was employed at a few locations, Dean’s Photography and Wolf’s Department Store before marrying Lonnie E. Lucia on September 2, 1945 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Des Moines. To this union three children were born. During her marriage she also worked at Lonnie’s Food Market, the Iowa State House, and Des Moines Schools. She had been a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church for over 50 years.
Pauline loved flowers and could name any of them. She was a lover of wild birds and could identify each species. Pauline always had bird food available year round. She was a wonderful cook, loved playing cards, and was a devout Catholic.
Pauline is survived by her daughters, Maxine (John) Oberg, and Alice Lucia of Des Moines; son, Tony (Carol) Lucia of Des Moines; grandchildren, Lonna (Rick) Brock, John Oberg, Amy Lucia, and Stephanie (Kori) Moore all of Des Moines; great-grandchildren, Madison Oberg, Dominic Oberg, Cole Brock, Logan Brock, and Mackenzie Moore (on the way); sister, Josephine Walker of Redford Heights, Michigan; little doggie, Sophia; and many relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Lonnie; her parents; a sister, Mary Cotrone; and her brother, Joe Palmer.
Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014 with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2014 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Avenue. Pauline will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Anthony Catholic Church in memory of Pauline.

For 25 years Pauline was a wonderful neighbor and friend. She always enjoyed my wives garden and our corner planter of geraniums at the corner of our garage. Pauline as long as we live here that pot of geraniums will be planted for you. You will be

Max & Alice... so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. May she rest in peace. I just realized when I read that she went to Lincoln, she may have know several of my aunts. Mary Jane & Jessie McAfee were about her age.
