Adrian Martin

Adrian W. Martin was born January 12, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Pearle E. and Virginia (Dutton) Martin. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during WWII. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star, in addition to many other accolades. He retired from East High School after 33 years of faithful service.
Adrian passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. He was 88 years old.
Adrian is survived by his wife of 62 years, Martha; daughter, Karen (John) Sheldon; son, Dennis; grandchildren: Rebecca, Abigail and Rachel Sheldon, Brandon and Lacie; brother, Dale; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Roberta and Madge; and brother, Boyd.
Services will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed immediately by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Private family interment will take place at Masonic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Altoona, Animal Rescue League of Iowa, or Animal Lifeline of Iowa.

Martha: We used to be neighbors in Beaverdale, 33rd Street. And I )Ann) was Librarian at EHS when Adrian was there -- what a lively, fun guy he was. It was always a treat to arrive in the A.V. room and find Adrian there to visit with. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.

Just rec'd your e-mail, Karen. So sorry to hear about your dad's passing. I know you've always been very close to your family. Our sympathies and prayers go out to your family. We aren't able to be at the funeral, but will be thinking of you.
