Charles Dale Hoing, age 79, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 24, 2014 surrounded by family and friends.

Dale was born on April 6, 1934, in Green Mountain, IA to Leo and Ruth Hoing. He spent his younger years in Wisconsin before returning back to Iowa near the beginning of World War II.

Dale graduated from Shell Rock High school in 1952 and joined the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War from 1952 to 1955. While serving in the Army he had his basic training in Texas and then was stationed on a 40 mm anti-aircraft gun in Korea as well as working on the Army newspaper.
He met the love of his life, Ruth Pauline Weber, in Shell Rock in 1951. They became engaged in 1954 and were married on June 10, 1956. The next day he started classes at Iowa State Teachers college in Cedar Falls, IA, graduating in June of 1959. After teaching school for a few years he started his career in the insurance industry.

Dale is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, and two daughters, Roxanne Beattie (Richard) of Runnells, and Deeanne Ellison (Randy) of Lynchburg, VA; three grandchildren Stacy Beattie, Cassie Farley (Casey), Richie Beattie (Meredith); four great grandchildren Coen, Cail, Cobi Farley and Harper Beattie; one brother, Bill Hoing of Silver Springs, MD and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ruth Hoing, and brother, Wayne Hoing.

Dale was an avid hunter, golfer and all around handy-man. In his life time he built 2 homes, 1 of which was for his parents-in-law and remodeled and improved every house they lived in. After marrying Ruth and moving to the Des Moines area, he was a member of 2 different Lutheran churches. He was an active member of his church by serving on various boards, and serving as an elder. In addition he also joined with other church members to go on several mission trips to Mexico and New Orleans after Katrina.

The Celebration of Life Service for Dale will be held on March 27, 2014 at 4:00 PM at Hope Lutheran Church, 3857 E 42nd St. Des Moines, Iowa. A time for food and fellowship with the family will follow the service. Burial will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa at a date to be determined.
