March 24, 2014
Virginia Lovell, 90, passed away Monday, March 24, 2014 at Valley View Village in Des Moines.
Virginia was born December 27, 1923 in Runnells, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Mable (Bowers) Winegar. She graduated from Runnells High School. She moved to the east side of Des Moines in 1949. Virginia was a member of Grant Park Christian Church for 58 years and Christian Women’s Fellowship. She participated in many activities at the church and was a member of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce for many years.
Virginia treasured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Education was very important to her and she was very proud of the fact that all seven of her grandchildren received college degrees, five of them with advanced degrees. She loved going to all of their sporting events, school activities, and church functions. Virginia also enjoyed her Meredith Card Club group and all of her Meredith friends. She retired from there after 35 years. She enjoyed family get-togethers, good music, and playing cards. The Winegar cousins were all special to her and she looked forward to gathering on Memorial Weekend at the old Winegar farmstead.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Dixie Carlson of Pleasant Hill; son, Donald (Mary Ann) Lovell of Marshalltown; sister, Cassie P. Kaiser of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren: Alan (Cydney) Lovell, Jeff (Monica) Lovell, Joel (Darcy) Carlson, Tim Lovell, Shannon Carlson, Daniel Lovell, and Dena (Jeff) Tisor; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin Lovell; son-in-law, Bill Carlson; brother, Harry (Evelyn) Winegar; and sisters, Margaret (Wilton) Warren and Jean (J.B.) Monahon.
Services will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014 at Runnells Christian Church, 309 Brown Street, Runnells. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed immediately by funeral services at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Lowman Cemetery.

Dixie, Don, Cass and Families -
Susan and I sadly say goodbye to a very special lady. Ginger was an absolute joy to have on my staff at Meredith, and as a valued friend. She will stay in our hearts forever.

Dixie and Don: Sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. I have many fond memories of her from Grant Park Christian Church and the parties that we held at your home. She put up with a lot from your friends. She always treated me well, and I have a great deal of respect for her. Sorry for your loss, you are in my prayers.
