Virgil Wells, 77, passed away Friday, March 21, 2014 at Fountain West Care Center in West Des Moines.

Virgil was born April 18, 1936 in Carlisle, Iowa to William and Maxine. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Virgil retired from the United States Post Office. He was a member of Evergreen and Pleasantville Church of Christ and American Legion Post 108. Virgil enjoyed reading, War History, watching TV, square dancing, woodworking, painting, being outdoors, camping and canoeing the Kickapoo River.

Virgil is survived by his children, Suzanne (Robert) Bender, KathEleen Waters, Ted Waters, Daniel Waters and Penny (Jeff) Crusan; sister, Nancy (Wally) Crook; step-mother, Rose Wells; many grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, June Wells; granddaughter, Shannon Lauer; father, William; and his mother, Maxine Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
