Walter Lame, Jr., 78, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on Thursday, March 20, 2014. He was born October 26, 1935, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Walter is retired from UPS. He proudly served in the United States Army. Walter was a member of the Masonic Acanthus Lodge and on the board of Local 90, and a part of Local 147 retirees. He was a commissioner and later president of Fort Des Moines Little League, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. He was also President of the board for Mid Am Credit Union, and on the board of 310 Credit Union. His greatest joy in life was being a father, a grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will forever be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 55 years, Kay; sister, Mary (Richard) Simpson; six children, Steven (Paulet) Lame, Kay Burkett, Kathy Thompson, Mary (Vincent) Sampson, Nancy Muetzel, and Linda (Daniel) Weber, and Raymond Johnson whom he thought of as a son; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Sr. and Nina Lame; three brothers, Charles Lame Sr., John Lame Sr., and Thomas Lame; and grandson, Dawson Weber.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Friends may visit with family from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
