Helen Wirth

Helen Wirth, 83, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601Westown Parkway, with Mass of Christian burial being held Monday, March 24, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose Cathedral, 607 High St. in Des Moines, and funeral Mass on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church, 607 3rd St. in Whittemore, Iowa, with burial following at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Whittemore.

Helen was born July 14, 1930, to James Leroy Farrell and Kathleen Ruth Walsh. She graduated from Presentation Academy in 1948 and went on to work in the accounting department with Farmer’s Grain Dealers, eventually retiring from Cargill. She married, settling in the Des Moines area, and was blessed with many children and grandchildren. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, lay associate with the School Sisters of St. Francis, and a member of St. Ambrose and Sacred Heart parishes.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen Holler, Carol (Roger) Ritter, Kevin Wirth, Tina (William) Merrill, Lutrica Wirth, Marsha (Tim) Klug, and Kathleen (Ron) Kleywegt; grandchildren; Andrea, Sean, Samantha, Tiffany, Lucas, Richard, John, Evan, and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Bode, and Jacksen; sister, Emy Farrell; and brothers, Leo (Arddy), and Tom (JoAnn) Farrell. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, James and Kathleen; sisters, Mary and Celine; and brothers, Kenneth and James.
