Ronald McCarty, 83, was born November 16, 1930, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Levern and Clara McCarty. He passed away March 18, 2014, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.
Ronald attended Grandview College where he played basketball. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the VFW Post 9662. Ronald enjoyed model trains and fishing, but his greatest passion was golfing. He was also a devoted fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Ronald is survived by his son, Kelly (Julie) McCarty of Clive; daughter, Kathy McCarty (Georg Silva) of Plymouth, MA; and his grandchildren, Callen and Corey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay McCarty.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Pine Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to VFW Post 9662 in loving memory of Ronald.

Deepest condolences to Ron's family. Ron and I played golf together at Monte Cristo Golf Course in Edinburg, TX. My wife and I really enjoyed his company and really missed him when he went back home to Iowa.

Sending our deepest sympathies to the McCarty family. Ron was one of the best neighbours. His passion for golf was truly unique. The stories we could tell you on Ron's golfing !! Absolutely hilarious. One day his golf ball went in the water and followed by his golf club. Cost him 100 dollars to get someone to retrieve the club out of the pond. Another time his ball went out of bounds and his club went in the tree. "Here, you can have that SOB too" were his exact words, We loved him dearly and we missed him when he moved away, but life goes on. Ron, you just stay out of trouble up there in heaven! It was a pleasure knowing you. I am glad I got to golf with you in the scramble all those times. It was a blast. Monte Cristo has never been the same since you left. Joan Regan
