Betty Stevens

Betty Jane Stevens, 69, passed away at her home Monday, March 17, 2014 surrounded by the love of her family.

Betty was born July 8, 1944 in Jefferson, Iowa to Ada (Palmer) and Claude Stratton. She married Paul Stevens on September 14, 1959. Paul was the absolute love of her life as well as her best friend and soulmate. Together they raised their four children in Des Moines. Betty enjoyed time with her family – especially her grandchildren. They called her “Nannie” and she loved it. She also enjoyed camping, boating, shopping and traveling with her daughters. Betty had a special love for her cats and dogs.

Betty is survived by her husband of 54 years, Paul; children, Paul E. (Deb) Stevens, Jr., Janette Kozeliski, Ruth Sanchez (Victor) and Jeff Stevens; grandchildren, Shawna, Chad, Dustin, Britni, Danielle, Brandi, Kati Jo and Jade; great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Rylea, Diego, Kayson, Kiana and Raegan; brothers, Jake (Erma) Stratton, Don (Judy) Stratton and Everett (Jan) Stratton; and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in remembrance of Betty.
