Ralph Shivers

Ralph Shivers, 79, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014.

Ralph was born November 7, 1934 in Altoona, Iowa to Raymond and Phyllis (Waller) Shivers. He was a lifelong resident of the Altoona area. He met his wife, Rosie, at a Christian Endeavor and they were engaged at a plowing competition. They enjoyed 49 years together before her passing in 2006. In Ralph’s words, “She won my heart ‘cuz she could cook and she was such a beautiful bride.” Ralph was a lifetime farmer and worked for Central Tractor for 19 years. He was also a lifetime member of Rising Sun Church of Christ.

Ralph is survived by his children: Keith (Sharon), Kurt (Lois), Karla, and Kent (Kathy); grandchildren: Koby (Mandee), Kray (Shawna), Joey (Kara), Annastatia, Teigha, Mercy, Grant, and Brett; great-grandchildren, Thatcher, Lorelei, and Hallie; sisters-in-law, Betty and Evelyn Shivers and Deb (Bob) Cooper; brother-in-law, Larry (Marilyn) Consolver; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosie; son, Kenneth; grandson, Samuel; brothers, Wayne and Harold; sister, Louise (Bob); nephews, Jason and Donnie; and niece, Diane.

Services will be held at Rising Sun Church of Christ, 6390 Rising Sun Drive, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 14 with burial at Rising Sun Cemetery.
