Service Details

Rev. Jack P. Merritt went to be with his Lord on August 14, 2007. He was born February 4, 1919 to John and Cosy E. Merritt of Seymour, Iowa. He was married to Martha Berneta Merritt on April 4, 1942.
Memorial services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, August 21st at First Federated Church, 4801 Franklin Avenue. Visitation will be Monday, August 20th from 6:00 – 8:30 PM at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Burial will be at Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour, Iowa at 3:30 PM on Tuesday.
Jack was an army medic during WW II in Amarillo, Texas and during that time, he was called to preach. He was a minister in Grand River, Eldon, Atlantic, Delphos, Commerce, Waukee, IA, Green City and Downing, MO. He loved being an evangelist and holding revivals. He enjoyed gardening and especially growing pumpkins and watermelons. He was a member of First Federated Church and loved hearing the Truth.
Jack is survived by his children, Patricia (Larry) Harker of Des Moines and Dennis (Patty) Merritt of Lake Elsinore, CA; two grandsons, Todd (Wendy) Harker of Parker, CO and Thad (Kerstin) Harker of Walford, IA; 6 Great Grandchildren, Tiarra Harker, Jaron Harker, Colton Harker, Keely Harker, Hank Harker, and Haddie Harker; and brother, John Merritt Jr. of Seymour, IA. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha Berneta, his parents and two brothers Forrest and Harry Jay.
Memorial Contributions may be made to First Federated Church in Des Moines.
