Carolyn Ann Swackhamer, 81, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014. She was born September 25, 1932 to Clell and Marie Woods in Lucas, Iowa.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Swackhamer, Steven (Lee Ann) Swackhamer and John (Angela) Swackhamer; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Shirley) Woods.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, John O. Swackhamer; son, Richard Swackhamer; grandson, Dustin Routh; brother, Ronald Woods; sister, Kathryn Ferguson.
Funeral Services will be held, 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines with a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. to follow at Goshen Cemetery in Lucas, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014 at the funeral home.

I'm so sorry to hear of Carolyn's passing. I remember that when I was a kid in church she was always very sweet to me, and she always seemed to be happy. I pray peace for the family in this time of loss, but I know we'll see her again someday in heaven. Love to your family.

To my wonderful Sister; I'm thinking of all the great memories we shared as a family.
You were more a sister than a sister-in-law. I was blessed to be part of your family for 53 years. So many memories of family gathering. I miss you but, Praise God we will all be together again.

To my wonderful Aunt Carolyn; who will always have a place in my heart. The best part of my life was growing up in the church; having an Aunt and Uncle to model the proper Christian behavior helped mold who I am today. Thank you for the example you set for me. I will be looking forward to seeing you in heaven.

You can't talk about Aunt Carolyn without talking about Uncle John. I owe them a huge debt of gratitude... When I had no where to stay they put me up. I spent a lot of evenings with Aunt Carolyn that summer watching the evening news and then the late show. I remember her saying that no one had a right to say anything bad about her loved ones, nieces and nephews were included, except her... Because if she said it it was out if love and was meant to lift up not tear down . That has stuck with me for 43 years now. They were both beautiful people and a terrific example of two people in love, and how Christians love one another. Ron is right there is a void now. But we have great memories of them.

My condolences to the Swackhamer family. I have many fond memories of my Aunt Carolyn and growing up with my wonderful cousins. Aunt Carolyn was a straight-forward no nonsense lady and I always loved and rspected her for that. There is a void in our world today. The Swackhamer family is in my thoughts and prayers.
