Kendall Mauch, 86, was born May 8, 1927, in Altoona, the son of J.A. and Edith (Stephensen) Mauch. He passed away March 6, 2014.

Kendall married the love of his life, Norma Jean Miller, on March 6, 1948, and to this union three children were born. He was a true “people person” and never knew a stranger – he enjoyed visiting with people and sharing stories, which always led to new friendships wherever he went. Kendall loved to travel with his family, especially to see the mountains. He particularly enjoyed his trip to Alaska in his motor home.

Kendall was proud to have served in the US Navy during World War II and in numerous leadership roles in the community throughout his life. He served as Trustee of Clay Township for 53 years, a 68-year member of the Bondurant American Legion Post #396 (all offices), a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge as well as Order of the Eastern Star (State Officer 2001), Za Ga Zig Shrine, Committee member of the World War II Memorial, State Commander of the American Legion Department of Iowa 1994-1995, Toastmasters, and Farmers Elevator Board/President.

Kendall is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jean Mauch; children, Sue (Randy) McMain, Steve (Cindy) Mauch, and Dan (Linda) Mauch; grandchildren, Kurt McMain, Bret McMain, Kendall Lee Mauch, Morgan Mauch, Andrea (Bo) Berntsen, Ed (Jenny) Mauch, and Emily Mauch; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; brother, Everett Mauch; sister, Phyllis Frette; other loving relatives; and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Evelyn Cushman.

The family will greet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 10, 2014, at Bondurant Christian Church, 304 Grant Street S., with burial to follow at Altoona Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bondurant Christian Church, Bondurant American Legion or King David Masonic Lodge in Altoona.
