Vicky Hacker, 63, passed away at her home Monday, March 3, 2014. She was born September 26, 1950, in Mount Clemens, Michigan, the daughter of Louis and Mary Gene Anderson. Vicky was a Unit Clerk in the NICU at UnityPoint Health Des Moines Methodist. She had also been a clerk at Broadlawns.
Vicky is survived by her daughters, Melissa (Brian) Steinsultz , Melanie Blacksmith, Michelle Hacker, and Mindy (Le) Hacker-Boster; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one on the way; mother, Mary Gene Anderson; brothers, Randy (Nancy) and Bill Anderson; and a host of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Louis, and her brother, Gary Anderson.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 9, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 12 p.m., at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Vicky.

Dear Vicky..you will be so so so missed in the NICU. You always had something nice to say and so genuinely happy to see EVERYONE who walked through the door. Sending healing prayers for your family and friends who will miss you every day.

Oh, Vicky....you left us so suddenly!! Your wonderful, outrageous sense of humor was just what we often needed in times of stress!! I, like so many others, will miss seeing your big smile and friendly greeting on those early mornings arriving at work in the NICU!!! My prayers are with your family, who must be struggling terribly with your leaving....I look forward to seeing you again one day.....Heaven must be an even happier place now that you're there!!!!

Vicki will truly be missed. What a lovely, selfless person she was. The NICU won't be the same without her and her bright smile. Prayers to her and her family and all the many people who loved her.

I am shocked and saddened to hear about Vicky's passing. She was a dear friend and I met her 21 years ago. She babysat Jayden in her home on the southside and often times "babysat" me. She was also there for my other son's delivery, working as the unit clerk in the ob unit. She came in right after I delivered Devin, and with tears streaming down her face said, "I heard Devin's first cry!!! And your last Stef!" She could always bring a smile to your face and I know she loved her kids and grandkids more than anything! She will be greatly missed.

Vicky was a wonderfully generous and kind woman. She saw the good in everyone and could brighten even the most difficult day. You have my condolences. She will be missed by many of us whose lives she touched.

My heart is deeply saddened at the loss of Vicky. She was larger than life and was full of wit and wisdom. She will certainly be missed in the NICU. She will truly be irreplaceable.

I will really miss Vicky, she was always a bright spot and a joy to just be around. She would smile and greet us all by name as we entered or left the unit, and really made us each feel special. I'm so sorry for her family, friends and all of us who miss her. She was the special one, I have absolutely no doubt that she is in Heaven with Jesus right now!

I send my deepest condolences to the family, friends and coworkers of Vicky. I am full of memories and stories I have heard from Vicky about life, love and miracles. She was always happy to see everyone. I will miss her smile and her laughter. She will be truly missed in the unit; A void that cannot be replaced.

I was stunned and saddened hear of Vicky's passing. When she started working nights at Blank Children's Hospital many years ago, I immediately recognized her as the daughter of my dear old friend, Mary Jean Anderson. She remembered my parents and always liked to reminisce about the "good old days."
She was a wonderful and caring person to work with. She knew how to put everyone in a good mood--which is a seriously important talent in a critical care unit.
One night, we had been very busy all night. Part of her job was to walk around to each bedside to put the lab result printouts on each chart. She had a little baby bootie that was lost in the laundry, so she put the bootie in her pocket. When she got to each bedside, she went up to each nurse, took the bootie out of her pocket, shook it, and quietly sang, "Shake your bootie." Laughter is the best medicine, and she knew how to make it work.
I will miss her. My prayers are with the family. She loved her girls and her grandchildren.

My deepest condolences to the family of Vicky. I have only worked with her for the past year at Blank. However, she will be forever etched in my heart with a huge smiling face and her voice that enunciated my name just like my family does. I think one of the last things I remember her talking about and crying happily about was a miracle she had witnessed. It was a beautiful thing to listen to her enthusiasm and watch her smile grow even brighter. It was like she had found a peace beyond understanding. God bless her family, friends, and all of us who will miss her smiling face at Blank.

I'm so glad Vickie was working the last time I worked! We started working together in the nursery and she always liked to mention that - we were veterans together. I will miss her terribly! She was always my bright smile greeting me when I came to work - I will truly miss that welcoming spirit! My prayers are with your family and I will always think of Vickie. She is in my heart!

My heart along with my eyes wept for your family in the loss of Vicky. I have worked with her at the NICU for a long time. She always met people with a smiling voice.She will be missed. I always enjoyed her conversations and her pickled beets..So sorry it was so sudden.
