Norma Jean Wilson Ridout, 73, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014. She was born August 5, 1940 in a farmhouse in Ringgold County Hospital in Iowa near Mt Ayr. She was the only child of Victor and Clarice Wilson.

She received her elementary education in a one room school house of which she was very proud. She went on to graduate with Mt Ayr High Class of 1958. After graduation, she attended Thompson’s Beauty School in Des Moines. She then went to work for and retiring from the Iowa Department of Human Services. On a Trailways bus stuck in the snow near Winterset, she met Glen Gary Ridout. They were married August 29, 1959. Norma was a wonderful cook and loved attending her kids and 4 grandkids activities.

Norma Jean enjoyed her neighborhood knitting group “The Edgewater Knitwits.” As well as spending time with the Copper Creek Bunco group and the lunch and coffee ladies. She cherished her membership in Does 25- Iowa where she was named Doe of the Year for 2013.

She is survived by her loving husband, Glen Gary of Pleasant Hill, IA; son, Daniel of West Des Moines, IA; daughter, Debra (Ron) O’Neal of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Nicholas and Jessica O’Neal, David and Dylan Ridout; great grandsons, Jonah O’Neal and Kaleb Blake O’Neal; step granddaughter, Jennifer O’Neal and her children, Jasmine, Jacob, Justice and Ciera; brother-in-laws, Richard (Sue) Ridout of Puerto Vallarta, MX; Robert Ridout of Des Moines, IA; and Douglas Ridout, (Sherry Berry) of Ankeny, IA.

Norma Jean asks you to celebrate her life since she had a good one.

Friends may visit with family from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Funeral Services will be held, 11 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
