Donald Speck

Donald Speck, 89, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 after a hard-fought battle with disease. He was born July 27, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa to Lorenzo and Martha (Harrington) Speck. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, painting and carpentry.

Donald is survived by his wife, Naomi Jean Speck; son, Larry Speck (Beverly); daughter, Mary Burgen; step-children, Diana Hughes, James Swinehart, and David Swinehart; son-in-law, Ed Hughes; daughters-in-law, Cindy Swinehart and Sue Swinehart; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; eleven brothers and sisters; two children; and three step-children.

Services will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m., followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m. with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
