Donald Keith Peitzman, 88, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Don was born April 10, 1925 in Dallas Center Iowa, to Louis and Carrie Peitzman. After graduating from Dallas Center High School, Don served in the U.S. Army during World War ll. He was wounded twice during active duty, and received two purple hearts and a variety of medals for heroism, including the bronze star. In 1947, Don was united in marriage to Mildred “Millie” Lehman, and this year would mark their 67 year anniversary. Together they raised three sons, Dennis, Robert and James. Don retired after 32 years of dedicated service from the U.S. Post Office. He was a long time member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Johnston. Don was a Mason of Auburn Union Park Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He also belonged to the Des Moines Consistory, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Temple, VFW, DAV, and Military Order of the Purple Heart. Don enjoyed being outdoors, and spent much of his free time working in the yard and gardening.

Don leaves behind to honor his memory, his loving wife Millie; sons, Dennis, Robert (Brenda) and James; grandchildren, Jodi (Regi) Corbin, Jenna Peitzman, and John (Brooke) Peitzman; two great-grandchildren; and other loving family and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at St. Paul Presbyterian Church, 6426 Merle Hay Road in Johnston. A lunch and visitation for family and friends will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul Presbyterian Church (Building Fund) or McAuley Terrace.
