Gail C. Doss, 55, died unexpectedly on Monday, August 13, 2007 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
Gail was born December 23, 1951 to Channon and Eleanore Seifert in Evanston, Illinois. She graduated from Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois in 1970. She moved to Des Moines to attend Drake University where she earned her BS degree in Education in 1975 and began her teaching career at Casady Elementary School. Gail continued to teach at Rice School from 1981-2000 and then Monroe School where she taught first grade. She was a passionate and dedicated teacher who provided a loving and caring environment for each and every student.
Gail’s bubbly personality and positive outlook on life surely won Mike Doss’ heart! They were married on June 14, 1986. Her tender spirit and abundant energy touched all her family, friends and anyone she met.
Gail is survived by her husband, Mike Doss of Des Moines; daughter, Tina (Bill) Derickson of Bondurant; grandchildren, Michael, Meghan, Emilee, and Jace; mother, Eleanore Seifert of Rocky River, OH; brothers, Gregory (Paula) Seifert of Springfield, IL and Channon Siefert of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Eileen (Michael) Stockdale of Bay Village, OH; nephew, Channon Seifert III; nieces, Jennifer, Emily, Jessica, Meghan, and Amy; great-niece, Sydney; and a host of beloved friends and her cat Kizzy. She was preceded in death by her father, Channon Seifert.
Gail was a member and past president of Alpha Delta Kappa an honorary sorority for women educators. She belonged to DMEA, ISEA and NEA. Gail was an avid Hawkeye supporter and Bear’s fan.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2007 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m., Thursday, August 16, 2007 with family present from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
A memorial fund will be set up in her honor at Monroe School, donations may be made to the Gail Doss Memorial Fund.
