Steven R. Elliott

Steven R. Elliott, 66, passed away February 20, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be held at St Augustin Catholic Church, 545 42nd St., Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 12:00 noon. Family will greet friends and celebrate his life on Monday, February 24, 2014 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines from 4-7 pm with a brief prayer vigil at 6 pm.

Steve was born on December 27, 1947 in Des Moines to Loyola and Otis (Randy) Elliott. He attended Roosevelt High School, and served during the Viet Nam War. Steve worked for the YWCA and Broadlawns Homeless Programs. He developed and facilitated annual Christmas Programs for homeless and underprivileged families for 10 years. He also initiated Fun Day at Adventureland for these children. Steve retired from Polk County Supplemental Foods Department in 2012. He was a member of the Central Iowa Blues Society and a founding member of The All Center Bums.

He will be missed by his wife, Diane; son, Randy (Renee); daughter, Katie; and granddaughters, Ella and Olivia, and one grandchild on the way; siblings, Sue (Denny) Bowers, Mary Pat (Bubba) Walters, Tom (Tammy) Elliott, and Kevin (Nancy) Elliott; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many special friends. Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Randy and Loyola.
