Raymond “Gene” Pebbles passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines, surrounded by his loving family. Gene was born on January 9, 1934 in Ladora, Iowa to Lona (Thompson) and George Pebbles.
Gene made his career as a salesman and sold insurance for American Family Insurance. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid camper. In his younger years he was very involved with his sons’ little league baseball and boy scouts.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Ramona; children, Russell Pebbles, Ryle (Rachel) Mac Pebbles and Rachelle (Wayne) Ware; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Duane (Yoko) Pebbles; sisters, Nadine Shepherd and Peggy Swafford; and numerous extended family and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter and two sons.
Gene’s family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Avon Cemetery.

My sincerest condolences to the Pebbles Family at this time.
Gene was instrumental in my insurance career, providing guidance and leadership during my early years. A man of true Integrity, honesty and character. Gene might not tell you what you wanted to hear, but he always told the truth.
Gene will truly be missed. He left an impression on all he met. St Peter will have to hear Gene tell him how to build a better gate before he enters.
May God's grace comfort your family during their time of grief.

My thoughts are with your family at this time. Ryle I didn't know that I knew your dad, he was my insurance agent when I was in my early twenty's and late Teens. He was a great guy. He will be missed.

There is truely another angel up in Heaven, and he will be missed here on earth. Gene always had a big smile on his face with every wave and hello. He would listen patiently and attentively to my girls as they go on and on with their stories. I agree that he was one of the best neighbors ever and we will all miss him very much.

I have only known Gene for the last seven years. But in those seven years I heard some great stories, he always had one no matter what the topic was. I loved the way he and his wife dressed alike all the time. They had a love that was forever and you could see it in their eyes. When I talked about them I called them Mr and Mrs Santa Claus. They always had so many family members over for the holidays, there was no room to park. He was a great neighbor and friend. He will be missed. God bless.

Gene was the best neighbor EVER. He had every tool I needed to borrow, could fix anything that broke and start anything that had an engine. I will miss him so much.
