Jayell Bos, 90, passed away on February 11, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. He was born on June 21, 1923 in Prairie City to Henry and Marie (Rhodda) Bos.
Jayell graduated from Prairie City High School and had lived in Altoona since 1955. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and retired from Armstrong Rubber after over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, playing cards and sharing the bounty of his garden with friends and family. Jayell was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
He is survived by his children, Gina Stewart, Jacqueline Ogden, Jane Smith, Jodie Cross, Gaylen and Gary Bos; siblings, Dorothy Smith, Mercedise Lane, Kenneth, Doyle and Leon Bos; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Geraldine; daughter, Janelle; his parents; and sisters, Shirley and Gladys.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Altoona United Methodist Church, 602 5th Ave. SW, Altoona with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th St. SW, Altoona with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will follow services at Altoona Cemetery.

Jayell has always been a dear friend to our family. I remember all the times I was at the house. It was always a place that I could go after events at church and school. I remember, too, all the time that he spent with Dad, either visiting or sitting next to each other at church. Please accept my sympathy and heartfelt love.
