William Lyons, Jr.

William “Bill” Lyons, Jr. was called to Heaven to be with Jesus and his family and friends on Monday, February 10, 2014 at his home.

Bill was born July 20, 1936 in Des Moines to William Sr. and Mary Lyons. He was a mechanic and co-owner of Al & Bill’s Service. After his retirement, he worked part-time at Prairie Meadows. Bill enjoyed tinkering in his garage and gardening.

Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn; sons, Danny (Sharon) Lyons and Randy (Judy) Lyons; grandchildren, B.J. (Laurie) Lyons, Matthew (Marcella Guerrero) Lyons, Michael (Niki Coady) Lyons, Megan (R.J. Irwin) Lyons and Keri (Eric) Kenoyer; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Alex, Sophie, Gaige, Ethan, Kaleb, Mekallo, Nitzeo and Harlow; sister, Betty (Richard) Black; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Billy Lee; brothers, Paul and Carl Lyons; and his sister, Helen Minks.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 3820 SW 9th Street followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.
