Theresa Marie Hutt, 86, former long-time resident of Beaverdale, passed away at Lantern Park Rehab in Coralville, Iowa on Sunday, February 9, 2014.

Theresa was born May 9, 1927 in Hamilton, Iowa, the daughter of Michael and Verna (Fedro) Mattise. She earned her affectionate nickname “Tuffy” due to her strength of character and resiliency. Theresa was employed at Northland Dairy where she met her husband, Bob. They were united in marriage May 24, 1952 and welcomed their son, Martin in 1954. Theresa was so proud of her family and was especially close with her only great-grandson, Gavin. She was an Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed working in her yard. Theresa was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Beaverdale. She and her husband, Bob, co-founded Capital City Ambulance in 1966.

Terry is survived by her son, Martin (Diane) of North Liberty, IA; grandchildren, Erin (Trisha) of North Liberty, IA and Marcy (Bob Oxley) of West Branch, IA; step-grandchildren: Traci (Bob) Massey of Coralville, IA, Troy (Sara) Anderson of Iowa City, IA, and Jess (Jake) Byram of North Liberty, IA; great-grandson, Gavin Oxley of West Branch, IA; step-great-grandchildren: Jack, Ruby, Mae, Brad, Estelle, Lily, and Lincoln; sisters, Dorothy Morgan of Bussey, IA and Barb (Junior) Pottorff of Hamilton, IA; as well as several special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; and her siblings, Charles Mattise of Hamilton, IA, Edward Mattise of Des Moines, and Irene VanderSluis of Knoxville, IA.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014. Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 14 with burial at Glendale Cemetery.
