Arthur E. Martin, 86, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 with his loving family at his side. Arthur was born on November 10, 1927 in Des Moines to Al and Helen (Knight) Martin.
Arthur served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a truck driver for many years. He loved going to baseball games and also watching them on T.V. Bud was a big Chicago Cubs fan. He loved talking, listening to music and most of all spending time with his family- especially his grandkids.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn; children, Constance (Ron) Sonnenburg of Prescott, AZ., Victoria VonStein of Cedar Rapids, IA., Arthur Martin, Jr. of Des Moines, IA. and Lisa (Henry) York of Des Moines, IA.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Gloria Robbins, Norma Doescher, Dorothy Remster, Sandra (Butch) Waddell, Sharon (Al) Hanson, Kathy (Jim) Rosenbalm; brothers, Don, Bob and Frank (Terrie); and many other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Burial to follow at Avon Cemetery.

I'm so sorry for the passing of Uncle Art. He will truly be missed. I pray for strength for my Aunt Joann and family. He was a very strong and caring man. I have alot of fun memories of him. especially when my dad would come to town every thanksgiving and dad would always go visit his sister and brother in law and go over the same stories every year and laugh so hard like it was the first time it happened.God bless you Uncle Art. I know you and dad have already went over the stories many times as well as all the other family members with you. I LOVE YOU.......

Words can't express how sorry we are for Uncle Art's passing. Our hearts and prayers go out to Aunt Joann and to his children and grandchildren. We know there are many family angels waiting to greet him. When we think of Uncle Art we think of his big laugh and his funny stories. He always started his stories with..well back in the day we did this or that and boy what stories some of them were.
We pray that God will give Aunt Joann and the family peace of heart in the trying times ahead...love you all

Some of my favorite memories in life are with Art&Joann Martin. He was my Father in law for 20 yrs. He would tell the best stories. Bad or good, I'd listen. And he had many to talk about too. He was a great Grandfather to my children. And a man I had a lot of respect for. May God bless you and may you RIP! Joann I'm so sorry and please have faith and strength.

JoAnn , I am so very sorry for you and your entire family during this most difficult time. I feel so blessed to have shared the time I did with Art. He was truly one of a kind ! I will so miss teasing him about his blue shirt ! Luv to u all and rest in peace BIG DADDY...........xo

I loved my Uncle Art very much, I will always treasure the memories I have of him, always giving me a hard time and laughing and joking. I remember a few years back Walmart were honoring Veterans in the store on the wall, and I submitted Uncle Arts milatary photo. I think he really liked that. Joann I am truly sorry for you, but happy that it is over for Art. I really loved the times I had with him the last few weeks. He and I had some very intimate talks during those times. Best of all I was thrilled to hear that he asked God for forgiveness. you have been a great wife God bless you.
