Sharon Christine Brandt-Edwards, 62, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines with her family by her side.
Sharon was born November 8, 1951 in Newton, Iowa, the oldest of three children, to James and Ila Brandt. She graduated from Baxter High School on May 26, 1969. She began her employment with Principal Financial directly after high school until October of 2012, when her battle with leukemia made it impossible for her to continue working. Sharon took part in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Des Moines program and was active in the Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Des Moines chapter. Sharon and John met in September of 1991 and were married August 15, 1998. They had a love of family and enjoyed traveling.
Sharon is survived by her husband, John Edwards; mother, Ila Brandt; sister, Margaret Brandt; brother, David Brandt (Vickie); brothers-in-law: David Edwards (Chris), Paul Edwards (Patty), and Duaine Edwards (Pina); nephews and nieces: Andrew Brandt, Angela Fleenor (Ron), Anna Palmer (Shane), Caleb Edwards, Shawn and Jessica Edwards, and D.J. and Dahlia Edwards; and great-nieces and nephews: Mallory, John, Emma, Gracie, Nathan, Erica, Kimmy, Michelle, and Kaylee.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Brandt and her paternal and maternal grandparents.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Union Park Presbyterian Church, 1307 Thompson Avenue, Des Moines with burial at Restland Cemetery in Baxter, Iowa.

Sharon was a treasured member of NAMI GDM - she was a friend, taking part in activities and supporting us generously. She was a kind person who dearly loved her family. Sharon will be missed. We hope the family finds comfort amidst this loss.

Knew Sharon from Bankers Life/Principal---the OLD days. Since leaving the company in 2002, I hadn't seen Sharon but we emailed once in awhile due to our sense of humor, sharing wild Internet stories. I am so sorry to hear she has passed. Our world will have an empty hole but Heaven will be filled with laughter.

I worked with Sharon when she first started to work in Des Moines at Bankers Life Company which has been a number of years ago. We have remained friends all these years. She was a very special lady. God be with you John and the rest of her family.

Sharon will be missed. She was the true meaning of a neighbor. I enjoyed crossing paths with her while living on Grandview. Both her and John were a blessing to my family. My kids looked forward to Sharon's care packages and birthday cards, she made them feel special. She had such a beautiful spirit!

Sharon was a very dear lady. I have many memories of working and talking with her. We lost contact with each other when I left the company in 2002, but have thought of her often since - wondering how her family was. Oh the stories we shared of her family. Sharon was such a dear, sweet lady. I just loved her. She was always upbeat and fun and I thouroughly enjoyed working with her. I know you will all miss her terribly and I am so very sorry for your loss.
