James Randolph, 82, died Friday, January 31, 2014.

James was born December 7, 1931 in Maplehurst, WI. He lived most of his life in the Des Moines area, with the exception of 17 years in Indianola, before moving back to Des Moines. James retired from the City of Des Moines in 1992 after 32 years of service as a laborer, truck driver, and operating engineer. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Pittsburg CA 72 heavy cruiser. He was a member of Glad Tidings Church.

James is survived by his son, James L. Randolph, Jr. (Sherry) of Des Moines; son, Kenneth Randolph (Jennifer) of Des Moines; daughter, Cindy Randolph (Tom) of Clive; daughter, Lorri Eddleman (Ted) of Runnells; son, John Malloy (Sue) of Des Moines; grandchildren, Jamie, Jennifer, James III, Clayton, Jade, Tyler, Ashley, John, and Amber; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Flo Graham, Irene Belleview, and Louise Walters; and brother, Vern Randolph.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Leonard Randolph; wife, Kay; brothers, Bob Randolph, Ed Randolph, and John Randolph; and sisters, Evelyn Kirkman and Marie Reese.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
