Henry Dontje

Henry Dontje, 89, was born August 21, 1924 to Frank and Olive Dontje. He passed away January 31, 2014 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa.

Henry farmed for more than 40 years. He was an active member of the Ledyard Elevator Board. Henry served as a deacon for many years at First Presbyterian Church in Lakota, Iowa, and he attended Ankeny Presbyterian Church.

Henry enjoyed oil painting, bowling, and the many years he spent wintering in Texas.

Henry is survived by his wife, Martha Dontje; children, Carol (Robert) Hill and Eugene (Kathleen) Dontje; stepchildren, Joy (Mark) Reiter, Jane (Ron) Seibring, Brenda Warren, and Lonnie Lawson; 6 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, as well as many great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Viola Krull; brother, David (Susan) Dontje; brother-in-law, Roy Hinz; and his sister-in-law, Mary Holm. Along with his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; siblings, August, Frances, and Emma; son, Allan; and his granddaughter, Desireé.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Ankeny Presbyterian Church, 317 SE Trilein Drive in Ankeny, with services beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Harrison Township Cemetery in Swea City, Iowa at a later date.
