Catherine Martens

Catherine Martens, 88, died peacefully Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Minnesota Masonic Home in Bloomington, Minnesota. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. in Des Moines. Visitation will be Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Katie was born March 24, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa to Rosa and Sam Glumac. She loved tending to her gardens, both flower and vegetable. She was a very giving person and always put others before herself. She took care of many family members and friends over the years. Above all, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they were the light of her life.

Katie is survived by her loving daughter, Mary (Ray) Caster; her grandchildren: Laura (Christopher) Kendrick, Joseph Caster, and Alissa Campbell and fiancé Joshua Broesder; her great-grandchildren: Aiden, James, Rebecca, and Thomas; and her siblings: Daniel Glumac and Violet (Edward) Robinson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Wilbur; her sister, Helen Engstrom; and her brother, George Glumac.
