Florent "Tom" Thomas

Florent “Tom” LeRoy Thomas, 74, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Tom was born October 27, 1939 in Knoxville, Iowa to John “Jack” and Lena (Vancebrock) Thomas. He was a hard worker, starting work when he was barely a teenager. He was a self-employed upholsterer and also worked as a truck driver for Ames Drywall. Tom served in the Iowa National Guard from 1956 to 1964. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting and was a dedicated family man. Tom had an ornery streak, but that’s how you knew he liked you. He was always thoughtful towards other people and would help out a friend in need.

Tom is survived by his wife, Margaret; children: Kathy Komerack (Danny), Inismet Thomas (Debi), and Trudy Cohen (Terry); brothers, John and Richard (Doris); 14 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cindy; son, Brian; and brothers, Donald and Robert.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2014 at Experience Church, 3800 East Douglas Avenue with burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville, Iowa.
